The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has revoked 701 passports. This includes both Diplomatic and Service passports. The action is part of a nationwide effort to recall official travel documents from unauthorized holders.
The announcement was made in a statement on Tuesday. It follows public notices issued on January 15 and March 10, 2025. These notices urged former officeholders to return their official passports.
The cancelled passports include 341 Diplomatic and 360 Service passports. These were not returned by the deadline set by the Ministry.
All affected documents are now on a stop-list. This means they are invalid for international travel. The statement warned that these passports must be confiscated if found in use.
Enforcement will be strict at all entry and exit points. Those affected include former Ministers of State and their spouses. It also includes former Members of Parliament and members of the Council of State, along with retired Justices from both Superior and Lower Courts.
Other affected individuals are former Regional Ministers, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). Former board members linked to the National Cathedral Project are also included, as well as non-career ambassadors and their dependents.
Additionally, religious leaders, businesspersons, entrepreneurs, and other former government officials not currently serving are affected.
This action supports the Passports and Travel Certificates Act of 1967 (NLCD 155). Specifically, it focuses on Sections 6 and 7 regarding proper issuance and use of official passports.
The Ministry remains committed to ensuring that Ghana’s diplomatic and service passports are used lawfully. They will only be reserved for eligible individuals actively serving the state.
