The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced five major changes to passport policies. These changes will take effect on April 28, 2025. The goal is to enhance service delivery and improve security. They also aim to make passports more accessible and affordable.
The new policies include:
- A switch from biometric passports to chip-embedded ones.
- A 24-hour passport service.
- A courier-based delivery service for passports.
- The introduction of electronic tracking (e-tracking) services.
- A 30% reduction in application fees, from GHS 500 to GHS 350.
On April 23, Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa addressed journalists in Accra. He emphasized the government's commitment to balancing affordability with security. “The cost will remain reasonable while maintaining high security standards,” he stated.
The Ministry believes these changes will greatly improve the experience for passport applicants. They also aim to strengthen the integrity of Ghana's travel documents.
