Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has summoned U.S. Ambassador Virginia Palmer. They will meet on Monday, April 7.
This meeting follows President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 10% tariff on Ghanaian exports.
Minister Ablakwa announced the meeting in a Facebook post. He stated that he invited Ambassador Palmer to clarify the reasons for the tariff.
The tariff has raised concerns among Ghanaian businesses and policy experts. Analysts warn it could negatively impact Ghana's export economy.
Industries like cocoa and textiles may be particularly affected due to their reliance on the U.S. market.
Ambassador Palmer is expected to explain the rationale behind this new trade policy. She will also discuss its implications for future Ghana-U.S. trade relations.
