Foreign Ministry rolls out new chip-embedded passport today

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is launching a new passport today. This passport has a chip embedded in polycarbonate. It features unique security measures to enhance safety. The goal is to reduce identity fraud and streamline international travel for Ghanaians.

The new passport includes nanotechnology and micro radio frequency identification (RFID) chips. It also uses a multi-layer compressed polymer for added security. These features protect the document from conventional crimes.

At a news conference in Accra, Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa spoke about the passport. He said it meets high standards of security and authenticity. The passport aligns with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards.

Mr. Ablakwa emphasized the government's commitment to decentralizing passport services. This will make passports more accessible to all citizens across the country.
