Former Member of Parliament for Binduri, Mr. Abdulai Abanga, has called for calm. He made this appeal amid rising violence in the Kusaug area. This violence has sadly resulted in the deaths of innocent women and children.
In a statement about the unrest in Binguri, Mr. Abanga condemned the attacks. He described them as “senseless killings” that stain everyone's conscience. “I urge everyone to exercise calm and restraint,” he said. He also expressed his deepest sympathies to affected families.
Mr. Abanga is worried about the cycle of violence escalating further. He warned that unchecked violence could lead to a broader regional conflict. He urged all parties to reject inflammatory language and lay down their arms. Supporting peacebuilding efforts is essential for restoring calm.
He also called on government authorities to improve security measures in the area. While acknowledging the need for a curfew and motorcycle ban, he noted these restrictions cause economic hardships. “The restrictions have brought untold hardships,” he stated, highlighting increased vulnerability among struggling communities.
Mr. Abanga praised security agencies for their efforts but called for a community-focused approach instead. This approach would help restore trust and ensure long-term stability in the region.
He supported ongoing mediation efforts led by Otumfuo, calling it vital for resolution. “All stakeholders must commit to these efforts,” he emphasized. “Only through genuine dialogue can we build sustainable peace.”
His statement reflects growing calls for calm and concerted peace efforts in Kusaug, where tensions threaten lives and livelihoods.
