Former Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman, Yaw Obimpeh, has won the Ashanti Regional Council of State election, securing 49 votes to defeat Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo, who polled 35 votes.

Daniel Anarfi Yamoah received just one vote, while one delegate was absent.

Following last week’s chaotic election, security was tightened at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, with police barricades and restricted access.

Only accredited individuals, including two supporters per candidate, were allowed entry after being photographed by the police.

Turnout was initially low, with less than 30 of 86 delegates voting by midday. About 40 delegates arrived in a bus led by NDC Chairman Nana Akwasi Andrews.

One candidate, Nana Akuoko, expressed dissatisfaction, while another had earlier withdrawn.
