A former Head of Public Relations at the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Mr. Razak Kojo Opoku, has responded to Listowel Nana Kusi-Poku. Kusi-Poku is a member of the NDC communication team and Executive Director of the Good Governance Advocacy Group in Ghana. Opoku criticized Kusi-Poku's claims about the NLA's relationship with KGL Group as false and ignorant.
During a recent appearance on Class TV (CTV), Kusi-Poku made comments that Opoku strongly refuted. He described these claims as "misinformed," “comedic,” and “childishly dishonest.” Opoku stated that Mr. Alex Dadey has no business ties with Ken Ofori-Atta. He also emphasized that neither Ofori-Atta nor President Nana Akufo-Addo are shareholders or directors of KGL Group.
Opoku challenged Kusi-Poku’s understanding of the legal framework governing the NLA’s operations. He referenced the National Lotto Act, 2006 (Act 722), which allows private partnerships for lottery operations. He clarified that the NLA does not sell lottery products directly but works with third-party companies like KGL Technology Limited.
Under Section 2(4) of Act 722, the NLA can partner with private entities for games of chance without covering their losses. To address allegations, Opoku outlined 16 key points about the NLA-KGL relationship:
1. No payments have been made by NLA to cover losses or winning tickets.
2. KGL Group has never received financial support from NLA.
3. KGL does not draw money from NLA’s resources like other contractors.
4. There has been no default in KGL’s financial obligations to NLA.
5. No parallel lotto draws have been conducted by KGL.
6. KGL is not affiliated with the NPP, Akufo-Addo, or Ofori-Atta.
7. KGL’s contract was legally acquired under Act 722.
8. KGL does not undermine government revenue efforts.
9. KGL provides value to both NLA and regulatory bodies.
10. KGL is a law-abiding corporate entity.
