Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), has been re-arrested. This happened shortly after his release from a seven-day remand. The Accra High Court’s General Jurisdiction ‘10’ heard this news today.
The arrest occurred late Monday night. This was just hours after Justice Eugene Nyadu Nyante ordered his release. His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, told the court about the situation. He said Adu-Boahene was released near midnight and then re-arrested for another matter.
Adu-Boahene is already on trial with three others, including his wife Angela Adyei Boateng. This case is titled Republic v. Adu-Boahene & 3 Others.
On Tuesday, Deputy Attorney-General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai represented the state in court. The parties were present to discuss disclosure proceedings. Justice Nyante asked if all necessary documents had been filed.
“Have you filed anything? I assume your witness statements are signed now,” he inquired. The judge also mentioned reinstating bail terms for Adu-Boahene.
Dr. Srem-Sai confirmed that the prosecution would comply with filing requirements within seven days. However, there was a brief debate about the timeline for disclosures.
The prosecution thought the 14-day deadline started today, but the judge corrected them. He emphasized that it should start from when the accused entered their plea.
“People’s liberty is at stake,” Justice Nyante remarked. “Let us expedite things to protect people’s rights.”
The court ordered the prosecution to file and serve its witness statements by May 20, 2025. The case has been adjourned to May 26, 2025, at 1 p.m., for a Case Management Conference (CMC).
