Former NSB boss sends memo from EOCO custody on use of security funds

Kwabena Adu-Boahene, a former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), faces theft charges. He is charged alongside three others, including his wife.

Adu-Boahene sent a confidential memo to the National Security Coordinator. The memo details how some allegedly misappropriated funds were used for national security operations.

The memo is dated May 5, 2025. It was sent from Adu-Boahene’s cell at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, transmitted it.

In the memo, Adu-Boahene felt compelled to disclose sensitive information. This includes details about "special operations, activities, and funding" related to national security.

He attached a table summarizing expenditures on special operations. The document includes allowances paid to Members of Parliament in 2020. These MPs served on the Subsidiary Legislation Committee and the Defence and Interior Committee during the passage of the NSB Act.

Although meant to be confidential, the memo has leaked online. This has raised concerns about breaches of national security protocols.

It is unclear if the National Security Ministry or Parliament will respond officially to these disclosures. A copy of Akyea's letter dated May 6, 2025, is attached below.
