Four suspects in latest cocaine bust remanded in prison custody

Four suspects linked to a cocaine bust at the Swissport Cargo Terminal have been remanded in prison.

They will return to court on 6 May 2025.

The suspects face four charges. These include attempted exportation of narcotic drugs without a license. They are also charged with conspiracy to commit crimes related to narcotics. Additionally, they face possession of narcotic drugs without lawful authority.

The Narcotics Control Commission has not finished analyzing the suspected substances. Therefore, the prosecution requested that the suspects remain in custody.

One suspect, Gariba Soli, is an artefact dealer from Accra's Art Exhibition Centre. The other three suspects—Josiah Biney, Emmanuel Minta, and Kwabena Ampofo Anti—work for Ansahdys Shipping and Logistics Co. Ltd at the Aviance Cargo Village.

On Wednesday, 23rd April, officers inspected outbound cargo at the Swissport Cargo Terminal. They intercepted three wooden boxes during a routine check for shipments bound for Brussels.

Initially, these boxes contained assorted wooden artefacts with no visible contraband. However, further inspection revealed false compartments inside each box.

Upon dismantling these compartments, officers found seventy-three compressed slabs of suspected narcotics. A sample slab was tested and confirmed to contain cocaine after field testing.
