Frank Davies responds to critics: We'll choose the method of protest in CJ’s case

Frank Davies is the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Legal and Constitutional Committee. He stated that Ghanaians should not dictate how the party responds to Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's suspension.

On Thursday, 1st May, Mr. Davies spoke on Citi FM. He rejected calls for the NPP to limit its response to legal actions only.

“When a court process is needed, it will happen,” he said. “Let us wait and see what unfolds.” He emphasized that a constitutional democracy allows for various ways to seek justice.

Mr. Davies noted that the NPP is not alone in expressing concerns about the Chief Justice's suspension. He mentioned a recent statement from the Trades Union Congress as evidence of broader national concern.

“It’s not just the NPP and other political parties involved,” he explained. “Organised Labour has also made their voice heard.” He added that Organised Labour might take legal action soon.

The NPP and other opposition parties plan a demonstration on Monday, 5 May. They aim to protest against what they call political interference in the judiciary.

The party has pledged to resist actions they view as unconstitutional and harmful to judicial independence.
