Lawyer Frank Davies represents former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. He criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for disclosing his client’s medical condition.
This criticism follows a media briefing by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng on June 2, 2025. During this briefing, Agyebeng announced that Mr. Ofori-Atta failed to attend a summons for questioning. He stated that Ofori-Atta's lawyers cited a cancer diagnosis as the reason for his absence.
In an interview on Joy FM's Top Story, Mr. Davies condemned the OSP’s comments. He accused Agyebeng of lacking discretion and decorum. “I didn’t think he would disclose this,” said Mr. Davies. He added that such disclosures show a lack of sensitivity to the matter.
Mr. Davies noted that the legal team submitted a formal medical report to the OSP. This report was signed by licensed medical professionals and confirmed Mr. Ofori-Atta’s health challenges. It also stated he could not attend the scheduled meeting.
“We sent a report from doctors to him,” explained Mr. Davies. “The doctors concluded he was unable to make the appointment.”
The OSP had previously questioned the authenticity of this health excuse. They suggested it might be a tactic to delay accountability. However, Mr. Davies refuted this claim, stating that their medical report is valid and they followed due process.
The Special Prosecutor has declared Mr. Ofori-Atta wanted again in ongoing investigations. This situation has sparked legal and public debate about handling high-profile cases and official disclosure boundaries.
