Rev John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South, criticized the government. He spoke about the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) feeding system. He believes the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been vindicated. He claims Ghanaians were misled by President John Mahama and the NDC.
In an interview on JoyPrime, Rev Fordjour discussed food supply under the NPP. “We supplied about 70% of the food,” he said. “Thirty percent was paid to schools for perishables.”
He noted that the NDC promised to change this system completely. “President Mahama often said they would send money directly to headmasters,” he explained. This made students happy at the time.
Rev Fordjour questioned whether this idea was feasible. “I thought it was a brilliant idea if implemented,” he stated. However, he predicted they would not succeed in fulfilling it.
“I told Ghanaians clearly that President Mahama could not deliver,” he added. He also mentioned that no Minister of Education could fulfill that promise.
He feels vindicated now, saying, “We’ve been scammed.”
Rev Fordjour accused the government of failing to keep its promises. “They only sent remittances to schools for two weeks,” he said. After five months in power, this was their only direct support.
He revealed that the government later changed its approach. They wrote a letter stating they would centralize food supply again. Now schools can only buy five items.
Rev Fordjour argued this new system is worse than what NPP had before. “They claimed they would do better but are doing worse instead,” he stated.
He warned against rushing to criticize while in opposition. “When you’re in opposition, you quickly criticize implementations,” he noted. Once in power, reality can be different and challenging.
“We have been vindicated,” he concluded, stating that NPP ran Free SHS better than NDC currently does.
