Former Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, has assured that Ghana’s free dialysis programme is operational in selected facilities.

His statement counters claims by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who criticized the previous administration for allocating only GH¢4 million, calling it inadequate.

Akandoh highlighted the absence of a sustainable funding plan, warning of challenges ahead.

However, speaking on Eyewitness News, Dr. Nsiah-Asare insisted the programme is running smoothly, with 20 accredited facilities providing treatment. He cited the National Health Insurance Authority’s reimbursement mechanism and recent procurement of 45 dialysis machines as evidence of sustainability.

With GH¢57 million allocated in the first quarter budget, he maintained that free dialysis services remain accessible to patients nationwide.
