Private legal practitioner and social activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has called for action against former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta. He believes the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) should freeze and seize Ofori-Atta’s assets.
Vormawor stated that strict measures are necessary to bring Ofori-Atta back to Ghana. He expressed his views in a post on X, saying, “If the OSP does not immediately commence extradition proceedings against Ken Ofori-Atta, then he is our entire problem.”
His comments follow the OSP's rejection of Ofori-Atta's request for a virtual session. According to Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, Ofori-Atta must appear in person.
Agyebeng emphasized that they have always requested his physical attendance. He stated, “A suspect in a criminal investigation does not choose how investigations are conducted.”
The Special Prosecutor also announced he has initiated an INTERPOL red notice process. This could lead to international arrest and extradition for Ken Ofori-Atta.
He explained, “About 30 minutes before this brief, I triggered processes for the issuance of an INTERPOL red notice.” This notice will seek the location and provisional arrest of Ofori-Atta pending extradition.
The OSP has accused him of causing financial loss to the state through various dealings. These include issues related to the National Cathedral project and contracts with the Ghana Revenue Authority.
Vormawor reiterated his stance on social media: “If the OSP does not immediately commence extradition proceedings against Ken Ofori-Atta... then he is our entire problem.”
