Frema Foundation Launches ‘Dignity in Bloom’ initiative to tackle period poverty in Ashanti Region

The Frema Foundation has launched a new initiative. It's called the Dignity in Bloom Period Pad Project. This project aims to empower young girls in the Ashanti Region. It focuses on providing access to sustainable menstrual hygiene products.

The launch event took place over two days in Wiamoase and Jamasi. Both locations are in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency. The project promotes dignity, equality, and opportunities for schoolgirls. It especially targets those from underserved communities.

As part of this initiative, the Foundation donated 1,200 eco-friendly pads. These reusable sanitary pads went to Junior High School girls from ten schools in Wiamoase. Girls at the Ashanti School for the Deaf in Jamasi also received them. Each student got drinks, food, chocolate, and other care items.

These reusable pads are environmentally friendly and last up to three years. They aim to prevent girls from missing school due to lack of menstrual products.

At the Ashanti School for the Deaf, additional supplies were donated. These included rice, sugar, soap, washing powder, cooking oil, tinned fish, bottled water, drinks, disinfectants, exercise books, and pens.

A representative of the Frema Foundation stated that this project is about more than just hygiene. “It is about dignity, opportunity, and equality,” they said. “Every pack donated promises a girl a future full of possibilities.”

The event also included menstrual health education sessions by ECO-ME Africa. These sessions featured interactive engagements with students and community leaders. A lively music and dance segment added a celebratory tone to the program.

The Dignity in Bloom initiative shows the Frema Foundation’s commitment to ending period poverty. It ensures that girls can pursue their education with confidence and dignity.
