From Bulldozing to Bail-Begging: Wontumi’s Plot Twist No One Saw Coming

In Ghana's courtroom drama, one man is in the spotlight.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, faces serious charges. He is accused of fraud, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state. The case has attracted attention from EOCO and Interpol.

Justice Srem-Sai, Deputy Attorney-General, shared updates on Facebook. He revealed that Wontumi’s case has crossed borders and involves asset recovery efforts. If Wontumi sells anything valuable, EOCO will seize it.

The Minority in Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, reacted strongly. They claimed Wontumi was treated unfairly while unable to pay a GH₵50 million bail. They demanded fairness and due process for him.

First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor responded calmly. He reminded them that Parliament isn’t a place for bail disputes. Instead of complaining at EOCO, they should go to court.

In an unexpected twist, Wontumi was moved from EOCO to a clinic at the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). Details about this clinic remain unclear but suggest he is not well.

Afenyo-Markin criticized EOCO for making bail feel like punishment. He argued that properties must be justified before posting bail.

Social media buzzed with reactions to the situation. Some called it karma; others shared proverbs about respect and consequences.

One commentator criticized youths protesting for Wontumi for small payments. Another warned that following a rich man could lead to trouble.

The biggest question remains: if Wontumi pays the GH₵50 million bail? FIC will investigate where the money comes from—cash or gold will face scrutiny.

Wontumi now walks a tightrope between legal troubles and public outrage. As he sits in custody, his situation grows more precarious each day.

In this political season of accountability, we remember an old Akan proverb: “When the chicken perches on a rope, neither sleeps well.”

Wontumi is the chicken; the justice system is the rope. We are merely spectators watching this unfolding drama.
