‘Fugitive’ Ken Ofori-Atta listed on INTERPOL red notice

Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, is now listed as "Wanted" on Interpol's official website.

This follows the Office of the Special Prosecutor declaring him a fugitive. An INTERPOL Red Notice has been issued for his extradition to Ghana.

The Special Prosecutor confirmed that this notice allows for international arrest. It also enables extradition if he is found in another country.

On June 2, Kissi Agyebeng spoke to the media about this development. He stated he initiated the process for the INTERPOL red notice just before the briefing.

Agyebeng emphasized that Ofori-Atta must appear in person at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). He rejected Ofori-Atta’s request for a virtual session.

Agyebeng said, “We have always requested his attendance and will not waive it.” He added that if they were willing to take statements remotely, they would have done so earlier.

He insisted on Ofori-Atta's physical presence, stating that suspects cannot dictate investigation methods.

The OSP has accused Ofori-Atta of causing financial loss to the state. This includes issues related to the National Cathedral project and contracts with various entities.
