The Municipal Chief Executive of Nima Municipal Assembly, Alhaji Abdul-Fatahu Alhassan, has launched an anti-drug campaign. The campaign is called “Say No to Drugs – Accra Ghetto Tour, Ride Your Bike.” It aims to address the growing issue of drug abuse among youth in Ghana.
The campaign started with a motorbike rally through various communities. Over 100 riders from the Bikers Association of Ghana participated. They partnered with the Ghana Police Service for this event. The rally focused on inner-city neighborhoods and ghettos.
During the event, Mr. Abdul-Fatahu emphasized the need for collective action against drug abuse. He stressed cooperation between law enforcement, community leaders, and youth. “We cannot fight this battle alone,” he said. He believes it takes everyone to drive change.
Plans are underway to expand the campaign nationwide. This will involve support from government officials, institutions, and NGOs.
Also present at the rally was ASP Asong Ayrakwa, Deputy Commander of the Nima District Police. He expressed strong support for the initiative. “Our future lies in the hands of the youth,” he stated. He added that it is their duty to unite against drugs harming young people.
