GA/R: Sanitation Brigade and Oblogo Assembly Member launch clean-up campaign to tackle flooding

The Sanitation Brigade for Development, part of the Young Progressive Network, is taking action. They are working with the Assembly Member for Oblogo Electoral Area. Together, they launched a major environmental sanitation exercise.

This clean-up campaign is called the “Good Friday Clean-Up Exercise.” It aims to desilt clogged drains in Oblogo. This area is prone to flooding in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality. With the rainy season approaching, this effort is crucial for public health and flood prevention.

The campaign began with an assessment of local sanitation and drainage issues. Stakeholders agreed to conduct clean-up activities bi-weekly. This will help keep drains clear throughout the year.

Patrick Asford Boadu leads the Young Progressive Network and Sanitation Brigade. He emphasized supporting local authorities with necessary tools and logistics. “We want to empower communities to hold regular sanitation campaigns,” he stated.

Mr. Boadu encouraged youth involvement in clean-up initiatives. He also suggested placing litter bins in key locations to reduce dumping.

Abdulai Tei Nene, known as Olembe, is the Assembly Member for Oblogo. He urged residents to practice responsible waste disposal. He warned against dumping rubbish into drains during rains.

“Violators of sanitation laws will face prosecution,” Olembe said. He also called on business owners and local associations to collaborate for a cleaner environment.

A local resident expressed frustration over poor drainage construction in Weija. She urged contractors to be more accountable for their work. However, she praised the Young Progressive Network's efforts and encouraged them to continue promoting a healthy environment for all.
