Residents of Site Three in Tema, Greater Accra Region, are upset. They are frustrated with a demolition exercise by the Tema Development Company Limited (TDC). They describe it as sudden and unfair. The residents say there was no proper consultation before the demolitions began.
The TDC reportedly gave little to no notice before tearing down structures. This has caused confusion and distress among shop owners affected by the demolitions. The company plans to build new commercial stores on the cleared land for leasing.
Tensions escalated when military personnel were deployed to assist with the demolition. Residents accused the security team of using force and intimidation during this process. Many affected individuals spoke to Accra 100.5 FM's journalist Rebecca Lartey, pleading for government intervention. They stated that their livelihoods are at risk due to these actions.
Mr. Godsway Dzene Franklin, Assemblyman for Ashiboi Electoral Area, also expressed concerns about TDC's conduct. He urged the company to stop the demolitions and engage with community members instead. He believes a more peaceful approach is needed for redevelopment.
Residents are demanding immediate action from authorities. They want their voices heard and concerns addressed before any further demolitions occur.
