GACL retrieves 16 acres of airport lands from McDan Group

The Accra High Court has ruled in favor of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

GACL has retrieved 16 acres of airport land from the McDan Group.

On May 6, 2025, the court granted GACL full possession of two parcels. These lands measure approximately 10.63 and 5.66 acres near Kotoka International Airport.

McDan Shipping Company and Airport Logistics Limited held these lands since 2012.

In February 2025, GACL began legal actions against McDan. They cited breaches of lease agreements and unpaid ground rent totaling $26,296.

GACL also sought an injunction to stop future interference by McDan companies.

The court awarded GACL repossession of the lands and payment for outstanding rent. Additionally, McDan must pay GH¢50,000 in legal costs.

The court noted that McDan failed to present a valid defense. This justified the summary judgment in favor of GACL.

In December 2024, McDan Aviation's operations at Terminal 1 were suspended due to debt issues.

GACL management praised the ruling as a significant milestone for asset recovery. A source stated that repossessing these lands protects valuable state assets.

It also reinforces their commitment to accountability in managing public property.

GACL plans to explore aviation-related projects or partnerships for revenue generation from this space.
