GAF denies attack on Chief of Army Staff in Bawku

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied claims about an attack on Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu. He is the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS).

On April 25, 2025, Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie signed a statement for GAF. The statement addressed two viral videos spreading false information on social media.

GAF stated that these videos are false and should be ignored. They confirmed that COAS’s visit to Bawku on April 23 was successful and without incident.

The statement also mentioned efforts to find those who created the videos. GAF warned the media to report responsibly, as misinformation can increase tensions in Bawku.

They urged bloggers and content creators to be careful with their reporting. Deliberate misinformation could worsen the security situation in the area.
