The Global Association of Transformational Teachers (GATE) is a teacher union. They are concerned about communication issues between the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Some newly posted teachers have not received their salaries for nine months. This has led to protests at the GES Headquarters on April 30. In response, GES and teacher leaders formed a committee to address the issue.
On May 1, 2025, John Arthur, GATE's General Secretary, spoke to Citi News. He expressed support for the affected teachers. "We are a union behind them since they are our members," he said.
Arthur noted that information from GES was confusing. The teachers reported an engagement with GES where they were told their documents were available. However, GES later stated that these documents had been sent to the controller for processing.
For those without staff IDs, GES is seeking financial clearance. Arthur urged all stakeholders to act quickly, especially the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.
