The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) is worried about Ablekuma North. This constituency in Greater Accra lacks parliamentary representation. Residents participated fully in the general elections on December 7, 2024.
The GBA noted a troubling delay in completing the electoral process. Despite voting, residents remain unrepresented months after the polls.
The GBA called on the Electoral Commission and the Election Security Task Force to act quickly. They also urged the Ghana Police Service to address this issue.
Additionally, the association emphasized following constitutional procedures regarding Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's removal process.
The GBA urged authorities to speed up declaring parliamentary results. They stressed that this is vital for upholding democratic rights in Ablekuma North.
“This situation undermines democratic governance and citizens' right to representation,” warned the GBA. They insisted immediate steps are needed to resolve this issue and restore confidence in Ghana’s electoral system.
On January 5, 2025, the Electoral Commission suspended result collation for Ablekuma North indefinitely. This decision followed discrepancies from results at 20 polling stations.
