The Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey (GCAG) has congratulated John Dramani Mahama on his victory in the 2024 elections, praising his commitment to combating illegal mining (galamsey).

The coalition highlighted his leadership as key to addressing the environmental damage caused by galamsey, particularly its impact on water bodies, forests, and communities.

GCAG called on Mahama’s administration to take immediate actions, including halting mining in forest reserves and river bodies, holding illegal mining companies accountable, and repealing LI 2462.

The coalition expressed optimism about Mahama’s leadership and committed to working together to restore Ghana’s environment for a sustainable future.
