The Ghana Education Service (GES) has received presidential approval for heads of public senior high schools to purchase essential food supplies to address feeding concerns.
This interim measure, effective from January 20 to February 3, 2025, aims to alleviate the current food shortages in public second-cycle institutions.
According to a letter signed by Stephen Kwaku Owusu, Deputy Director-General (MS), funds have been disbursed based on student enrollment, with an approved daily feeding rate of GHS7.50 for boarding students and GHS3.00 for day students.
Schools are instructed to procure food locally, while purely day schools should engage private caterers to provide hot meals.
Regional Directors have been tasked to ensure compliance with procurement and financial management regulations for smooth implementation of this initiative.
