GES to promote eligible deputy directors on Mahama’s order

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu announced that President John Mahama has ordered the promotion of all eligible deputy directors in education.

This decision comes after a warning from the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT). They threatened to strike on April 30 due to delays in promoting junior educators.

On April 24, Mr. Iddrisu spoke at a launch for distributing sanitary pads to schoolgirls. He assured everyone that the promotion directive would be implemented quickly. This will happen despite challenges like limited office space.

Mr. Iddrisu mentioned that many deputy directors struggle to advance due to lack of office availability. President Mahama has directed the Ghana Education Service and Ministry of Education to promote these deputy directors. They will serve as directors even without formal postings.

The sanitary pad initiative supports President Mahama’s commitment to gender equality and inclusive education. The Free Pad program aims to help adolescent girls who miss school during their menstrual cycles due to lack of hygiene products.

President Mahama highlighted menstruation-related barriers as a significant issue in his State of the Nation Address. He emphasized the need to remove obstacles affecting girls’ education.

This program is expected to reduce financial burdens on families and improve school attendance among girls. It also aims to enhance health and well-being for students.

Overall, the initiative seeks to create a more inclusive learning environment by ensuring access to essential menstrual hygiene products for all school-aged girls.
