The Ghana Football Association (GFA) launched the fifth edition of the KGL Foundation Inter-regional U-17 Colts Championship on May 20.
The event took place at KGL House in Labone, Accra. Key stakeholders attended, including President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and GFA Executive Council Members.
This initiative started in 2021. It aims to unlock young talents in Ghana and provide them a platform to showcase their skills.
Mr. Okraku praised KGL for their ongoing support of youth development. He said, "This is a celebration of youthful talent and regional pride."
He added that the championship embodies the dreams of young boys across Ghana. It allows them to display their talents, discipline, and potential.
Okraku expressed gratitude to KGL for believing in the Football Association's vision five years ago. He thanked them for helping young boys realize their dreams.
The championship promotes talent discovery and fosters regional unity. It supports youth development and nurtures future stars from local levels to national stages.
This year, KGL will provide each team with 60 kits: 30 home jerseys and 30 away jerseys. Teams will also receive footballs, bibs, and cones.
The first tournament was held at McDan La Town Park and Madina Astro Turf. MAL FC won that edition in 2021. Great Corinthians claimed victory in 2022.
In 2023, Ashanti Region's U-17 team hosted and won the title as well. Last year’s tournament took place at Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Western Region defeated Eastern Region 2-1 in the final to win the trophy last year.
Ten Regional Football Associations will select top U-17 players from their competitions to represent their regions.
