The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has protested against the Trades Union Congress (TUC). They accuse the TUC of acting unilaterally and marginalizing them during the 2025 May Day Parade in Accra.
In a letter to TUC Secretary-General Dr. Joshua Ansah, GFL expressed strong disapproval. They felt sidelined during the national labour celebration. The GFL stated that their leadership and perspectives were ignored.
The GFL noted that speeches from TUC officials did not reflect all organized labour's concerns. Their contributions were noticeably absent. “As a key player, GFL’s input was missing, which is unacceptable,” they said.
The GFL also criticized TUC's comments on an ongoing issue with the Chief Justice. They claimed there was no prior consultation among organized labour leaders about this matter. They called these statements "premature" and inconsistent with due process principles.
Regarding illegal mining, known as galamsey, the GFL supports the national campaign against it. However, they insisted that any official stance should come from collective discussions. Unilateral statements on sensitive issues could harm labor advocacy credibility.
Additionally, the GFL lamented its exclusion from the event's official program. They missed the chance to deliver a solidarity message while TUC officers dominated proceedings. The event lacked coordination and inclusiveness.
The GFL demanded immediate corrective action and an urgent meeting of interim Organised Labour Leadership by May 2025. This meeting should address stalled Organised Labour structures and promote transparent engagement among stakeholders.
While reaffirming their commitment to unity in labor, the GFL emphasized that respect, consultation, and transparency are essential for collaboration.
