The National Service Authority (NSA) has saved over GH¢1 million. This follows the removal of more than 2,000 ghost names from its payroll.
Felix Gyamfi, the NSA’s Director-General, announced this news. He stated that the cleanup is part of efforts to improve transparency. The goal is to eliminate fraud within the scheme.
Gyamfi mentioned that service personnel data will be shared with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department. This will help prevent duplication and illegal entries.
He warned those on multiple payrolls not to submit their allowance forms. “If you’re already on another payroll, do not submit your form this month,” he said.
The NSA is working closely with the NIB and other security agencies. Anyone attempting to defraud the system will face arrest.
A headcount revealed 81,885 suspected ghost names on the NSS payroll. This count was requested by the Minister for Finance to clear allowance arrears from August 2024.
More individuals have been identified in connection with this scandal. Notable figures include Honourable Mustapha Ussif and Henry Nana Boakye.
The Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, announced charges next week for those involved in the scandal. He stated that investigations have progressed well and charges will be filed soon.
