Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former head of the National Signals Bureau, denies financial misconduct. He provided a detailed explanation about GH¢49.1 million in question.
In a letter to the National Security Coordinator, he clarified fund usage. The money covered various operational costs, including payments to Members of Parliament and an opposition party. It also funded vehicle purchases for President Mahama's special aide.
Adu-Boahene stated that the funds were linked to two accounts created by National Security. One account served as a special operations account. The other was a special-purpose vehicle for sensitive transactions.
Facing accusations of diverting funds to a private entity, Adu-Boahene defended his actions. He revealed information “reluctantly” to clear his name.
He listed several expenditures:
- GH¢9,537,000 paid to ISC Holdings for cyber surveillance systems.
- GH¢6,900,000 disbursed for personnel supporting national stability and counter-terrorism.
- GH¢960,000 and GH¢309,000 given as allowances to MPs during legislative processes.
- GH¢8.3 million allocated to an opposition party for communications equipment.
- GH¢5,135,000 paid for high-end vehicles for the President-elect's aide.
Adu-Boahene’s explanation is likely to attract public interest and scrutiny. This comes amid growing concerns over transparency in national security operations.
