Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), is in trouble. He claims that GH¢960,000 of the alleged GH¢49 million stolen was used to pay Members of Parliament.
Adu-Boahene said this money was for the Defence and Interior Committee. It aimed to speed up the passage of the National Signals Bureau Act (2020). He made these claims in a letter from EOCO custody.
He stated that the payment was part of expenses for the 2020/2021 fiscal year. This was specifically for enacting the NSB Act 2020.
Adu-Boahene denied any wrongdoing. He assured that he and his wife would never steal public funds. He questioned how one could steal without being flagged by the Auditor-General.
He accused EOCO boss Raymond Archer of misrepresenting facts. He believes this could embarrass the government and national security.
Adu-Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, and two others face serious charges. They are charged with stealing, defrauding by false pretenses, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The state alleges they stole GH¢49 million in state funds. The Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, filed 11 charges against them at an Accra High Court.
Currently, Adu-Boahene has been remanded by this court. He will remain in custody for seven working days while witness statements are prepared by the Attorney General's office.
