The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 10 new cases of Monkeypox (Mpox). This raises the total number of infections in the country to 19.
Currently, five of the newly confirmed patients are hospitalized and receiving treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported from this outbreak.
Mpox is a viral disease. It spreads through close contact with infected people, animals, or contaminated materials. Common symptoms include fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches, back pain, headaches, and fatigue.
In response to the outbreak, health authorities urge the public to follow strict preventive measures. These measures include frequent handwashing and avoiding contact with symptomatic individuals. People should report suspected cases to their nearest health facility without delay.
The GHS has increased surveillance and public education efforts nationwide. This aims to contain the spread of the virus.
