The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed two cases of Mpox in Accra. This has led to quick actions to prevent the virus's spread. The GHS assures the public that there is no need to panic.
Mpox is a viral disease. It spreads through close contact with infected people, animals, or contaminated materials. Common symptoms include rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches, and fatigue.
In a press release on May 15, the GHS stated it is working with the Ministry of Health. They are implementing containment measures like contact tracing and community surveillance. Public awareness campaigns are also being heightened.
The GHS noted that contact tracing efforts have begun immediately. They aim to identify individuals who may have been exposed to the confirmed cases. These contacts will be monitored for symptoms and given appropriate care.
Health authorities urge the public to stay vigilant and practice good hygiene. People should report any suspected symptoms to nearby health facilities. It’s important to avoid close contact with anyone showing signs of illness, especially visible rashes.
The GHS reassured the public that there is no cause for widespread alarm. Ghana’s public health system remains alert and follows established protocols for infectious diseases.
To enhance public education, health officials are increasing awareness campaigns nationwide. This aims to inform people about how Mpox spreads and how they can protect themselves.
Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea signed the release as Acting Director-General of GHS. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding public health. “We have the capacity and expertise to manage this situation,” he assured everyone.
