GHS receives phototherapy machine for neonatal jaundice treatment

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has been equipped with a new phototherapy machine aimed at improving the treatment of neonatal jaundice, a condition affecting newborns. This advanced equipment was donated by the Rotary Club of Accra East and is part of an initiative to enhance pediatric healthcare in the region. Neonatal jaundice occurs when there is an excess of bilirubin in a baby’s blood, leading to a yellowing of the skin and eyes. If left untreated, it can result in severe health complications.

The GHS has emphasized the importance of early detection and effective management of this condition, as timely treatment can significantly reduce risks associated with high bilirubin levels. The donation underscores ongoing efforts by organizations to support public health initiatives and improve medical facilities for vulnerable populations, particularly infants. Officials from both the GHS and Rotary Club expressed their commitment to collaboration in addressing healthcare challenges. With this new machine, healthcare providers are hopeful for improved outcomes for affected newborns across Ghana's healthcare system.
