Ghana recorded 20,599 tuberculosis (TB) cases last year. Over 90 percent of diagnosed patients were successfully treated and cured.
This achievement is a historic milestone for the country. TB-related deaths declined to 5.1 percent. This is a significant improvement from previous years, where rates ranged from eight to ten percent.
Dr. Yaw Adusi-Poku is the Programme Manager of TB Control at the Ghana Health Service (GHS). He shared this information during World TB Day celebrations in Accra yesterday.
The theme for this year's event was “Yes we can end TB; Commit, Invest, Deliver.” The day aims to raise public awareness about TB's health, social, and economic impacts. TB remains one of the deadliest infectious diseases globally.
