The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has banned fees for washroom use. This decision aims to uphold patient dignity and improve public health standards.
Reports indicated that some hospitals charged fees between GH¢0.50 and GH¢2. The GHS called this practice exploitative and inappropriate in healthcare settings.
In a circular dated April 16, 2025, Acting Director-General Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea instructed Regional Directors to stop these charges immediately. Facility heads who do not comply will face sanctions.
The GHS emphasized the need for clean and comfortable washrooms. This helps prevent infections, improves patient care quality, and increases satisfaction.
Regional Directors must ensure compliance with this directive. They are also asked to inform facility heads about the importance of this issue.
