Lordina Pokua Addai, a student from the Global Innovation Management Institute (GIMI) Impact Ghana, has been shortlisted for the Early Steps Academy Market Disruptor Challenge. This is a global championship.
The challenge allows students to showcase their innovative and entrepreneurial skills. They focus on developing disruptive strategies and solutions.
Students take on the role of CEO in a sustainable fashion startup. Their goal is to compete with fast fashion brands like Zara, Uniqlo, and Primark. They must create a profitable alternative that encourages consumers to move away from fast fashion's harmful practices.
Ms. Lordina is in Grade 9 at Dison International School. She is also a fellow at Young People Travel (YPT) Global Edge in America. After reviewing over 300 competitors worldwide, she was selected as one of the top five participants.
She is the only African student to reach the final round. Among 50-60 African participants, she represents her continent.
On Saturday, May 31, 2025, Lordina will pitch her business idea called "GREENSTITCH." Its tagline is "Stitching a greener future."
She will present her innovative approach to fast fashion and its environmental impact. Her focus will be on sustainable solutions for Ghana through GREENSTITCH.
Early Steps Academy is led by Harvard Business School alumni. It aims to boost children's confidence in real-world situations early on. The program uses case-based learning to teach essential subjects and develop 21st-century skills.
GIMI IMPACT Social Innovation empowers high school students to tackle social challenges. These include climate change, food security, water scarcity, poverty, and more through innovation.
