GIS arrests 2,241 foreign nationals for street begging in Accra

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested 2,241 foreign nationals. They were engaged in street solicitation in Accra's Central Business District.

The operation targeted 11 hotspot locations in the city. It aimed to reduce street begging, especially by foreign nationals.

Among those arrested are 384 adult males and 525 adult females. Additionally, there are 577 male children and 755 female children.

This operation is part of GIS's efforts to enforce immigration laws. It also aims to protect vulnerable individuals, particularly minors.

Authorities state that these arrests address urban congestion and public safety issues. They also aim to combat potential human trafficking and child exploitation rings.

The GIS promises to work with relevant agencies moving forward. They will ensure the law is upheld during the processing of these cases.
