Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has emphasized the media's vital role in protecting democracy and called for better welfare for journalists.
Speaking at the Northern Regional GJA Awards in Tamale, he commended journalists for their resilience despite financial challenges and attacks on media freedom.
Dwumfour urged the Speaker of Parliament to support a bill promoting media freedom and called for improved conditions for journalists.
He also highlighted the media's responsibility in ensuring peaceful elections and announced a training initiative with the U.S. Embassy for fact-based election reporting.
