The Ghana Journalists Association celebrated World Press Freedom Day on Friday. The event took place at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
Hundreds of senior journalists attended from public and private media organizations. This year’s celebration was special because it honored veteran media practitioners. These individuals defended press freedom during various military regimes in Ghana.
The theme for this year was: “Reporting in the brave new world – The impact of artificial intelligence on press freedom and the media.”
Several notable personalities were honored at the event. They included former GJA President Amb. Kabral Blay Amihere, Mr. Kwesi Pratt Junior, and Mrs. Gifty Afenyi Dadzie. Other honorees were Ben Ephson, Dr. Charles Wireko Brobbey, Dr. Paul Fynn, Adwoa Yeboah Afari, Elizabeth Ohene, Mr. Kwesi Afrie Badu, Mr. Cameron Dodoo, and Alex Dade.
Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor is the President of the Ghana Journalists Association. He thanked the sponsors who made the event possible.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu delivered the keynote address on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama.
