GJA honours former Ghanaian Times Editor, 23 others for contribution to media freedom

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) will honor Ajoa Yeboah Afari tonight. She is a former Editor of The Ghanaian Times. Along with her, 23 other individuals and institutions will be recognized.

This award ceremony is part of the 2025 World Press Freedom Day celebrations. It will take place in Accra and replace the usual daytime flag-raising event at the Ghana International Press Centre.

Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, GJA President, supports this change. A statement from General Secretary Kofi Yeboah explains the new approach. The aim is to formally recognize those who champion press freedom.

The first group of honorees includes individuals who significantly promoted press freedom in Ghana. This group features three former GJA presidents: Ambassador Kabral Blay-Amihere, Gifty Affenyi Dadzie, and Ajoa Yeboah Afari.

Other honorees include Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby from GIPPO and Prof. Kwame Karikari, a media expert. Also recognized are Kwesi Pratt Jnr., former Editor of the Daily Graphic, Elizabeth Ohene, and Ben Ephson Jnr., Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch.
