GMA demands urgent meeting with Health Minister over suspension of vehicle importation tax waiver

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has requested an urgent meeting. They want to meet with Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh. The topic is the suspension of the Vehicle Importation Tax Waiver for public sector doctors and dentists.

This policy was part of a Conditions of Service agreement. It was signed on March 27, 2024, and set to start in July 2024. However, there are concerns about its delayed implementation.

A joint statement from GMA President Dr. Frank Serebour and General Secretary Dr. Richard Selormey highlighted these issues. Some members cannot clear their imported vehicles at the port due to the suspension. This situation puts their vehicles at risk of confiscation.

The statement reminded members about a communication sent on February 19, 2025. It advised them to hold off on waiver applications while issues were resolved.

GMA noted that they informed the Minister about this situation in a letter dated February 20, 2025. Unfortunately, there has been no progress since then.

The National Executive Council decided to request an urgent meeting with the Minister of Health. They aim to address these challenges and reinstate the tax waiver for affected members.

Additionally, GMA plans to hold an emergency meeting after speaking with the minister. This meeting will help determine their next steps moving forward.
