The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a weather alert. Thunderstorms and rain are expected across parts of the country later today.
The southern region will be mostly cloudy. There will be some sunny periods in the afternoon. The northern region is expected to remain largely sunny.
From late afternoon into the evening, thunderstorms or rain are likely. This includes parts of the coastal, middle, transition, and northern sectors.
This forecast follows devastating floods over the weekend. These floods caused loss of life and property damage, especially in Accra.
On Sunday, May 18, heavy rain lasted nearly three hours. This resulted in severe flooding in several areas of the capital.
Ella Esiman Nongo is the Municipal Chief Executive for Adentan. She confirmed that three people died in separate incidents. One victim was a four-year-old girl from Lakeside, Nanakrom, and New Legon.
The flooding submerged major roads and left commuters stranded. Significant property damage occurred in Weija, Kaneshie, Adabraka, Adenta-Dodowa, and Tema. Overflowing stormwater channels like the Odaw drain worsened the situation.
