GNAT plans protest over Adabraka School security issues

The Accra Metro West District of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) plans to hold a demonstration soon. They are protesting government inaction on harassment of female teachers and pupils. There are also security concerns at Gray Memorial, Nii Amugi, and Calvary Basic schools. These schools are part of the Adabraka Cluster in the Klottey Korle Constituency.

This protest follows a one-month ultimatum given to the government. The Municipal Education Director visited the schools but took no action. No security personnel have been deployed to ensure safety.

William Yitah, Chairman of Accra Metro West GNAT, spoke to Citi News. He said they will notify the police about their intention to demonstrate. They will also submit a petition to relevant authorities.

"We are currently on Easter break and will resume on May 4," he said. "Because we are on holiday, we cannot carry out our threat now."

He added that no police or military units have been sent for protection. "The situation remains unchanged," he noted. "Weed smokers continue their activities without interruption."

Once they return from break, they will inform the police as required by law. They plan to demonstrate against the government's inaction and present their petition to the Minister for Interior.
