The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has reported a big drop in prank calls. There was a 31.52% decrease in the first quarter of 2025 compared to last year.
In a press statement, Divisional Officer II Desmond E. Ackah shared the details. The Service received 131,862 prank calls from January to March 2025. This is down from 192,545 calls during the same period in 2024.
The GNFS credits this decline to better public education efforts. These efforts included campaigns across traditional and digital media, schools, and communities. They focused on the dangers and legal consequences of false emergency alerts.
“Prank calls waste critical resources and delay real interventions,” the statement said. Such actions pose risks to lives and property and are punishable under Ghanaian law.
Acting Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong praised the public for their positive response. She urged Ghanaians to stay vigilant and support the Service’s initiatives.
The GNFS remains committed to improving emergency response services. They remind everyone to report fire incidents using toll-free numbers 192 or 112, or hotlines 0302772446 / 0299340383 for quick assistance.
