GNFS shuts down illegal food joint at Fuel Station in Osu over safety risks

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has ordered the closure of a mobile mini restaurant. This restaurant was operating with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at the Total Filling Station on Oxford Street in Osu, Accra.

The decision came after a viral video showed the vendor using open flames near fuel pumps. This is a serious breach of fire safety regulations and poses an imminent fire hazard.

Fuel stations are classified as high-risk zones due to flammable substances stored there. The GNFS prohibits activities involving open flames or spark-generating equipment in these areas. Violations can lead to legal consequences.

DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sapong, acting Chief Fire Officer, has called for intensified inspections at fuel and gas stations nationwide. She warned that individuals or businesses violating safety protocols will face strict penalties.

The GNFS is committed to working with fuel and gas station operators. They aim to ensure full compliance with safety standards.
