The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) is holding off on negotiations for a possible fare adjustment until a new Transport Minister is appointed and vetted.
This follows a second fuel price hike in January, with petrol at GOIL rising to GH₵15.29 per litre and diesel to GH₵15.77.
Shell's prices have also surged, reflecting global crude oil price increases and cedi depreciation.
Industrial Relations Officer Abass Imoro confirmed that GPRTU has exceeded the 10% threshold for fare adjustments and is prepared to engage with the incoming Transport Minister once appointed.
Additionally, GPRTU plans to advocate for the removal of certain taxes on fuel to ease costs for transport operators and passengers.
