The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has expressed support for the re-introduction of road tolls, stressing that the revenue generated should be efficiently used to maintain and improve the country's roads.
The union, through its Public Relations Officer Abass Imoro, emphasized the importance of fairness, proposing that road tolls should be included in the renewal of vehicle roadworthy certificates to ensure all vehicle owners contribute.
The GPRTU also voiced concerns over the privatization of tollbooth operations, highlighting the unequal distribution of income-generating booths to private companies, which they believe harms public funds.
The union urged the government to ensure that tolls are collected fairly and used solely for road improvements, calling for a digitalized, accountable collection system.
